Comrade Yusuf Mohammed, programme Manager, Kaduna state malaria elimination program from the State Ministry of health has disclosed that the Global Fund Malaria Accountability and Advocacy Project has concluded plans to distribute 5.2 million treated mosquito nets as part of efforts in the elimination of malaria in the state.

Yobe state government in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health, Malaria Consortium and other development partners has flagged-off the distribution of 2.3million free Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) as a preventive measure for malaria disease.
Flagging-off the programme Monday at Emir of Damaturu’s palace, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, said, the efforts was to free the citizens from mosquito bites and safeguard the entire populace from malaria diseases.

Chevron Sponsors Roll Back Malaria in Ondo Communities
In pursuance of its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR), Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Chevron Joint Venture, has taken one of its health programmes to the riverine areas of Ondo State for the benefit of the people in the area.
The programme, tagged ” Roll Back Malaria” was flagged off at Ugbo in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state with an admonition to the people to maintain proper hygiene.
Speaking at the ceremony, the General Manager, Policy Government & Public Affairs of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn, said the programme was one of the CSR initiatives of the company to better the health of the people.
Brikinn said CNL places the highest priority on the health and safety of its neighbouring communities, workforce and protection of the environment and its asset.
He promised that NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture would continue to partner with the federal and state governments on the drive to eliminate malaria.
To drive home the programme, Chevron Nigeria Limited CNL had yearly been engagung Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) to handle the programme for people in some riverine communities.
The state WRPA Coordinator, Mrs Edna Ohunayo, who noted that the gesture would soon take place in Owo Local Government, said that the annual initiative had been beneficial to people of the area, whose environments are prone to breeding mosquitoes causing malaria.
Also speaking, the resource person, Lieutenant Raphael Awofe, who is the Medical Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operational Base (FOB), Igbokoda, lamented that children under five years of age are the major victims of malaria.
Awofe sensitised the people on the causes, dangers and global best practices to curtail malaria scourge, demonstrating how the mosquito nets could be effectively used in the various households.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, lauded the oil company for the intervention programme, saying it would tremendously help to reverse the scourge of malaria in the state.
Adegbenro noted that the programme would complement the health insurance scheme embarked upon by the state.

MALARIA: 40,000 children are at the risk of dying in the North-east
More than 40,000 children are at the risk of dying in the North-east due to the combined threats of acute malnutrition and medical complications arising from high prevalence of malaria, the World Health Organisation (WHO), has said.
In its annual report for 2018 released yesterday to journalists at a workshop on health emergency response in Yola, Adamawa State, WHO explained that the destruction of many health facilities and the killing of several health workers in the region by the Boko Haram insurgents have made response to health emergency cases difficult .

ExxonMobil commits $170M to malaria eradication
ExxonMobil said it has so far committed $170 million in support for local and global organizations working to eliminate malaria around the world.
Since 2000, ExxonMobil disclosed that, it has invested $170 million, supporting the delivery of 15 million bed nets to prevent mosquito bites, the administration of 5 million anti malarial treatments and the distribution of 3.9 million rapid diagnostic kits while it has also supported the training of 700,000 health workers.

We all must end malaria in Nigeria -WDI
Executive Director, Westfield Development Initiative (WDI), Mrs Omobola 'Lana, has reemphasize the need to collectively end malaria in Nigeria.
She used the platform to urge the Lagos State government to organize programmes to combat the rise of malaria in the state.
Speaking during the commemoration of April 29 World Malaria Day (WMD), she said: "Malaria still kills and we're ready to end it! It could be a baby step, but we are not taunted by its high prevalence."
Hosting the event with a medical outreach programme at Aboru community in Alimosho local government area, the non-profit organization (NGO) reiterated to Reporting Malaria Media the effort would attend to
one thousand people in the community with each person getting a malaria insecticide mosquito net.
She noted that the outreach commenced in 2014 and had been taking place for the past six years in different communities within Alimosho LGA
Mrs 'Lana also intimated that with the 2019 theme: "Zero Malaria Starts With Me"; her NGO had set to provide some basic health services as well as long lasting insecticide treated nets which is the most effective means of protecting oneself from malaria and other mosquito related diseases.
