Malaria claims Akintunde, Nollywood actor's life

ONE of Nigeria's famous actor, Gbenga Akintunde, known for his roles in Yoruba movies, has died of malaria, after a brief illness.

Akintunde died on Thursday January 3 sequel to visiting an hospital to complain of malaria.

Fondly called "Burger", his death shook one of his closest friend, Kunle Afod, 45, another Nollywood actor and producer, a Lagos indigene.


Making the announcement via his Instagram handle (@kunleafod) on the late 45 year old movie producer who hailed from Oyo State; Afod wrote: "You called yesterday to confirm if I will still be holding my new year party today and I was called this afternoon that you are no more…BURGER.. “Heard you went to the hospital to complain about malaria this afternoon and in few hours you are in the mortuary…this is so sad. Planning to celebrate you in few days' time…imagine the shock and tears...Oye Olorun (meaning God understands),’’ Afod wrote.


Akintunde was reportedly the first child from the family of four. His burial announcements are yet to be released by his family,
